According to the Chamber, the implementation follows a directive from the Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah.
The instruction comes as a result of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta’s, announcement of a revision of the rate from 1.5% to 1% when he delivered the 2023 budget statement in parliament last year. Parliament subsequently debated and passed the revised E-Levy rate before the House went on recess in December 2022. Law was assented to by the President H.E Nana Akufo Addo and gazette on the 29th of December 2022.
This means that Airtel Mobile Commerce (Ghana) Limited (AirtelTigo Money), Mobile Money Limited (MTN MoMo), Vodafone Ghana Mobile Financial Services Limited (Vodafone Cash), GCB G-Money and Zeepay Ghana Limited, all Electronic Money Issuers (EMIs), will commence the implementation of the revised rate for the E-levy on Wednesday, January 11, 2023.
GHS 100 threshold
According to the Chamber of Telecommunications, apart from the general reduction in the E-Levy rate from 1.5% to 1%, all other conditions associated with the policy previously still apply.
Key amongst them is the daily GHS100 threshold which is exempted as well as other exempted transactions remain unchanged.
The Chamber further assured the public that its members are working assiduously with the Ghana Revenue Authority and other key institutions, to ensure a seamless implementation of the revised Electronic Transfer Levy.
